Albacore tuna is a nutritious, safe, healthy, and delicious species of tuna that is found in oceans across the globe. It can be found in many forms such as fresh, frozen, canned, loin or as steaks. It is popular in many cultures as it is rich in protein and contains essential omega-3 fatty acids as well as vitamin A, B, selenium and niacin. Tuna can be eaten cooked, baked, seared, or raw (sashimi/tartare) and all variations are delicious and easy to prepare. Albacore tuna is sometimes preferred over other varieties of tuna as it has a firmer texture and the mildest taste. With its light color and fresh flavor, albacore tuna can be commonly found in poke, salads, sandwiches, or on its own. It is recommended to be eaten two or three times a week as they are packed with essential vitamins, proteins, and fats. Health benefits include reduced blood pressure, cholesterol, and a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. Tuna is an excellent alternative or substitution to beef, chicken, and pork.
What makes albacore tuna special? Albacore tuna is the healthier variety of tuna as it is richer in omega-3 fatty acids and a leaner protein. It is also the only type of tuna that can be labeled as ‘white’ for its light color. When properly frozen and stored, albacore tuna can last up to 9 months at its best quality.
The albacore tuna is a light pink when raw. But turns white and has a steak-like texture when cooked. Our Albacore is from the southern seas therefore has less fat content than its northern swimming sisters. This low-fat fish lets your imagination reign when devising delicious sauces and toppings for a wide array of its cooking applications. It’s great for the grill and all other searing preparations, and it’s ideal for any BBQ event where people want a healthy alternative to meat.
